Relationships aren’t perfect, but ours is because he’s in it. – Sierra
They initially met years before while working at Douglas Lake equipment. They worked in different departments so they didn’t really see each other, but years later Sierra came in for an interview at Prairie Coast Equipment where Mat was working at the time (and is how I met Sierra also!). He was cuter than she remembered and she didn’t know he worked there, but Ryan (their friend+coworker) suggested that Mat invite her as his date to the Christmas party so she could meet her future coworkers (she didn’t even have the job yet!).
”A couple of days later I phoned Sierra to ask her to the Christmas party. I was so nervous. Thankfully she said yes. Although I think that she originally told me she was a little unsure and had to find something to wear first (my memory is a little vague about this) at this point I was just happy that I could speak proper English to her. Did I mention I was nervous??” -Matt
”From there, we started working together, so although I really liked him, and we were friends, I didn’t think I should date him. I thought friends would be better. And we were great friends. We used to play 21 at the school near his house, and watch movies together and text all the time. After a year, I moved to Abbotsford. We still talked all the time and would watch tv shows at the same time and text about the show during them. A year after that, I moved home to Kamloops, and we visited almost every day. Then we made it official, as boyfriend and girlfriend. :)” – Sierra
”One day close to Halloween, Mat texted me to tell me that the leaves were changing colour downtown and we should go for a walk on the weekend so I could take pictures. So that Sunday we headed down to Riverside Park. The entire time, I was making jokes about the possibility of him proposing. I never thought he was planning to! I joked that it was a good thing he suggested walks so often, or else I would have known something was up. I asked him if I needed my phone, and hinted that I might need to call my parents ‘for some reason’. We walked to the rose garden and back, and then he suggested walking a little further to the bench we’d sat on at the Christmas party, our first date. I sang the JAWS theme to make fun of him and pretend something was going to happen!! (he told me to shut up. lol). When we got to the bench, I noticed he kind of shifted his hand in his pocket a bit and suddenly got SO nervous, so I asked if I could pat him down just to make sure he didn’t have a ring box!! To this day I don’t know how he hid it. He asked if I remembered the first time we sat on this bench, and what would’ve happened if he’d made a move. I told him I didn’t know what would have happened if he’d kissed me. He said ‘I really blew that shot, didn’t I?’ I laughed and agreed that he did. He then kissed me on the cheek and said ‘I’ll never blow a shot like that again’ and then got down one knee and asked me to marry him. I said YES! After I recovered from my complete shock!”
