Ok, so as you have noticed, I could definitely use some work with the whole blogging thing. Starting this business I was trying so hard to say the right things and make my business look a certain way to appeal to people. Basically… professional but lacking personality. I have learned a lot this year not only in photography but as a person as well. It has been a year of trial and error for sure! Back in June I went to a photography workshop put on by Jamie Delaine. I think one of the things that I walked out with that will have the biggest impact on my business is branding. Photography is such a huge part in my life and my personality definitely comes through my images. Photography isn’t just work to me. Photography is my passion. Photography is my hobby. I LOVE Photography and I LOVE being able to share it with you! One of the goals I am setting for myself over the next couple months is to show more personality. Not going to lie, I am NOT a writer. Blogging scares me a little bit and I am not one to go blaaahhh and just write pages and pages about my life. I am a little reserved, but TRUST me! There is personality in there. Let me tell ya. ;) So… for those of you reading this prepare yourself! You are about to get to know me. Anything and everything. Totally random and spontaneous, goofiness and all. I want you guys to be able to look at this and pick me because of my work, and the photographer behind it. To explain this a little more, here is an excerpt from a book I have been reading. It is really good and although I have not finished it yet, I would recommend it to anyone… It is super interesting and helpful even if you are not into photography. ;)
“So let me state this unequivocally, right up front: The real value in any photography business is located in the person behind the camera. The tragedy is just how few shooters actually believe this. As an analogy, think about a company like Starbucks. Does the true value of that business lie in its coffee bean inventory? In its bricks-and-mortar buildings? No, because if all the buildings and all of their contents were destroyed, the company would still exist and would soon be back in business again. That’s because its real value lies in its ideas, its people, its signature style, its organization, its reputation, its vocabulary, its way of doing business. To believe that either your inventory (i.e. your images) or the price you charge for it is where the real value of your company rests is superficial thinking. The real value is the engine that creates those images. The real value is not in the photography; it is entirely in the photographer who takes the pictures. The photography itself is the result of the photographer doing her or his job. Nothing more.” – Fast Track Photographer by Dane Sanders
